Binbougami ga!

From the director of some of Gintama comes a new anime comedy titled Binbougami ga!

Now, there’s a thing with Japanese comedy. Well, it’s pretty common knowledge that comedy in general is outstandingly cultural, with much of a country’s humour going completely over your head unless you’ve grown up with it. It’s not even a matter of obscure references; some things are just innate to the culture and environment. That’s how we can have concepts like ‘British humour’ and stereotypes about Germany’s style of comedy, or supposed lack thereof. Japan is obviously no exception, with a cultural sense of humour that seemingly favours awkward pauses, clown/straight man routines (or ‘Boke and Tsukkomi’ if you’d prefer) and some other stuff because I don’t really know what I’m talking about.

What I DO know about it is that comedy in anime tends to be driven by wordplay, characters in odd/absurd situations, shitty references and/or falling on tits, depending on what you’re watching. Obviously, this isn’t all there is to the humour you can find across the medium, but there’s one thing that you just never seem to see: good old-fashioned, unabashed, over-the-top, zany slapstick in the vein of Looney Tunes. You probably see where I’m going with this, and yes: Binbougami ga! has this, and has it in spades.

But that’s not all it brings – for better or for worse…

Well that’s one way to make an entrance and leave a memorable first impression

Feels moon, man
