If you’re an anime fan and haven’t had your head buried under a rock for the past year or so, you’ve undoubtedly heard of Katawa Shoujo, an original-English visual novel with an amusing development history wherein you have the opportunity to date one of 5 girls with disabilities, and there’s some drama involved. It was kind of a Big Deal when it was released in January, not least because this pure labour of love had been in development since 2007.

It was kind of a Big Deal for me too.

What my scores mean

Reviewing is basically entirely subjective. I think the only thing that isn’t is technical animation quality, but even then what constitutes ‘bad’ animation varies from person to person. So naturally, an individual’s review scores are going to have a different meaning from someone else’s. How people calculate their scores, what’s important and what’s not, it depends on each and every individual.

As such, I figure I might as well clear up and explain what exactly, if anything, my scores mean and imply. Also this gives me something to point to if anyone disputes my scores. Disagree, sure, but you can’t say I’m wrong because a) opinions and b) my opinions > your opinions.
